Melinda Baldwin is a graduate of Davidson College, where she earned her B.S. in 2004. She also holds an MPhil in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge. She is currently finishing her PhD at Princeton University, and will join the SSHRC cluster at York in the fall of 2010. Her dissertation, "Nature and the Making of a Scientific Community, 1869-1939," investigates the early history of the journal Nature, focusing on the journal's nineteenth-century rise to prominence in Britain, its treatment of scientific controversies such as spiritualism and radioactivity, and its impact on scientific internationalism in the twentieth century. Her broader research interests include the history of scientific communication, gender and science, and the history of chemistry.
